Dorothy Dandridge Makeup Tutorial | Black History Month Series

Dorothy Dandridge was one of the biggest Hollywood film stars of the century. She open doors tremendously for African American women in film; opening doors for leading role opportunities as well as interracial relationships on film.

Here’s Miss Dandridge as the first black woman to be on the cover of Life magazine for her most notable film to date, Carmen Jones. This was also the first time in history a black woman was given the leading role in a Hollywood film.

Dorothy Dandridge

Dorothy, although quite controversial at times with her feminine physic and sometimes overly sexual roles, still made quite an impact on this industry because she advocated for change. Change in what roles black women received in films and change in how black women were treated in general. Dorothy was truly a natural born star.

Here’s my version of her makeup look from the movie Carmen Jones

Social Media Week Lagos 2014 | Beauty Unmasked

It has been such an absolute honor to spend this week in Lagos, Nigeria to participate in this year’s Social Media Week Lagos. When I was initially contacted a month ago I had no idea just 3 weeks later I’d be on a plane with a visa and a dream to come true!

I have to give a special warm thanks to My Makeup NG for bringing me to Nigeria and coordinating this year’s Beauty Unmasked Panel. A panel of 7 beauty experts and individuals who came together to talk about the beauty industry, how it has rapidly impacted Nigeria and also to take things a step deeper than this. The panel was not just about makeup and beauty, we discussed natural hair, skin bleaching, and other social issues that are relevant to our society right now.
SMW Lagos Beauty Unmasked

As you can see we had an amazing power house lineup of not only Nigerian makeup artists but beauty professionals, content creators, bloggers and women of influence. It was just an honor to be sitting beside them. Each of them were all AMAZING and unconditionally welcoming and kind! I am so glad to have met them.
