Aloha! Today’s outfit of the day will be sharing with you all what I’m rocking while I visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial today. I am very sad to say that in the year I lived in Hawaii I NEVER got to visit the memorial!! So it means a lot to be here again and do all of the things I really didn’t get to do back then. I’m so excited and I plan on taking a lot of photos and just being at peace there today.
I hardly am able to find rompers that don’t look stupid on petite girls so I was really excited to share this one with you guys. It’s from Forever 21. The sandals and the flower in my hair I bought at the Aloha Stadium swap meet lol I haven’t owned a pair of sandals in YEARS!
Aloha everyone! Does anyone remember when that was how I used to greet all my videos when I first started YouTube? For those that may not know or remember, but in 2009 I started my beauty channel while living in Hawaii. To be quite honest, a lot of the times I spent alone and away from my family is what helped fuel me starting a YouTube channel (that and my best friend kept telling me to do it). So I finally did.
I do not have a lot of positive memories of Hawaii. I was married while living here but I may as well have been single. It was really the time where I began to entertain and explore the idea of pursuing my passion professionally, but at the time it was not at all well received from the people that meant the most to me.
It was hard sometimes turning on my camera and smiling when I sometimes did not want to. But I did it anyway. Because a part of me REALLY looked forward to logging in and connecting with you guys. And overall just sharing and learning new things. It was where I really began to bring out a side of me that was kind of hidden or just a hobby for so long.
So here I am, back where this all started really. It was actually a little emotional the thought of coming back here since the last time I was here was in 2010. I had a different life, I had a different last name. I was almost a different person. But now that I am here, 4 years later…I no longer think of pain when I think of Hawaii. I think of the person I became, I think of the few amazing bonds I did make while living here, and I think of beauty that rose from it all.
So here’s to making new and better memories here on the beautiful island of Oahu. I hope you all enjoy this “get ready with me” style makeup tutorial!

Dorothy Dandridge was one of the biggest Hollywood film stars of the century. She open doors tremendously for African American women in film; opening doors for leading role opportunities as well as interracial relationships on film.
Here’s Miss Dandridge as the first black woman to be on the cover of Life magazine for her most notable film to date, Carmen Jones. This was also the first time in history a black woman was given the leading role in a Hollywood film.
Dorothy, although quite controversial at times with her feminine physic and sometimes overly sexual roles, still made quite an impact on this industry because she advocated for change. Change in what roles black women received in films and change in how black women were treated in general. Dorothy was truly a natural born star.
Here’s my version of her makeup look from the movie Carmen Jones
